Club Meeting Summary – April 27th, 2010

Return of Breakout Sessions

  • Each month we will be bringing back educational breakout sessions to be conducted during our regularly scheduled meetings. If you are intrested in providing your assistance, please contact any of the club's officers to volunteer.

Upcoming Club-Only Competitions

  • April 27th - Extract Only (BJCP categories 1-23). Entries must have at least 51% of the fermentables from Malt Extract!

  • July 27th - Meads (BJCP categories 24, 25, 26).

Upcoming Events / News

  • The Brew Works has asked about co-sponsoring a charity beer festival around homebrew the event will take place May 28th at 7pm at their Allentown location. If you have a keg you'd like to serve at this event please see any of the officers ASAP.

  • This years Big Brew recipe style is Russian Imperial Stout, the recipe is available at the shop. Big Brew is Saturday, May 1st at the Becker farm, we will be having a pig roast once again. All are invited to brew or just to hang out. See the club forum for additional details and directions.

  • Dave Barber and Scott Minnich will be presenting at Brew Works "Brew U", Monday, May 10th at the Brew Works on the Green location.

  • The Annual Bus Trip is shaping up and will be June 26th we will be visiting Troegs, Appalachian, Lancaster and Stoudt's. The bus will leave promptly from the Beiber Terminal on 222 & 78 at 9:30am. Please be on time, we will not be picking you up from the park and ride in Quakertown.

  • June 5th & 6th, several club members will holding a beer tasting at the Kreidersville Covered Bridge Festival.

  • Mike Lessa and Bob Piano will be holding an All-Grain brewing class over at Northampton. Class starts on Wednesday, June 9th, and will continue for three consecutive Wednesday night classes. The cost of the program is $75.

  • Chris Bowen is embarking on a brewing excursion to the Arctic to recreate a historic brew. There will be an Arctic Alchemy case raffle to help support this worthy endeavor.

  • The results are still being processed from the AHA Nationals competition, and should be posted on or around May 2nd.

  • BUZZ OFF competition will be held on May 22nd, at Iron Hill in West Chester. The entry deadline is May 8th and all entries can be dropped of at Keystone Hombrew Supply.
  • May 1st is the McCoole's Spring Beer Festival in Quakertown, PA (40+ beers, two tasting sessions, food, music and more).
  • May 15th is BrewFest at Mount Hope in Manheim, PA (30-40 microbreweries, complimentary food, music and more).
  • May 15th is also the Brandywine Valley Craft Brewers Festival in Media, PA (held at Iron Hill featuring 25+ breweries and music. Proceeds will be going to charity).

Club News / Information

  • Club Elections are next month we will be accepting nominations tonight (4/27) for all offices.

  • The club is accepting new design ideas for club t-shirts.
